Kulturweberei Finsterwalde - Modern cultural area
In the singer city of Finsterwalde, a new concert hall is being built on behalf of the city administration with the renovation of the old Schäfer’sche Tuchfabrik (a former cloth factory), which will be called “Kulturweberei”. In the future, social and cultural life will take place in the modern congress and event centre.
The first idea for the construction of a new, modern and multifunctional town hall in the former cloth factory came about back in 2008. The listed ensemble in Oscar-Kjellberg Street is part of Finsterwalde’s industrial history.
Thanks to funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the idea became reality. With partially preserved structural details of this former industrial culture, such as the restored shed roof construction, the new event hall will have a special flair and thus become centre of attraction for the residents of Finsterwalde and its surrounding communities.
A multifunctional event venue
As a place of community and culture that creates identity, the Kulturweberei will offer a wide range of events and uses for all age groups in the future. This is to be achieved with a flexible range of cultural events: concerts of various genres, musicals, theatre for children and adults, cabaret, disco, dance events for children and young people, afternoons for senior citizens, conferences and company celebrations of local and regional companies, associations, initiatives and groups. In future, these events can be organised by the city itself or by external providers.
In the hall 600 seats or 1,000 standing places as well as spatial solutions for small events will be available. The modern event technology with a mobile stage, which will be 6.40 metres deep and 14 metres wide, will be supplemented by raised seating in the back rows for a better view.
Increased attractiveness of the region
The Kulturweberei is of immense importance for Finsterwalde due to the increasing competition between regions. It not only presents, expands and develops the cultural and educational life of the singer city, but also that of the entire region.
