Potsdam Science Park - Attractive for start-ups
Potsdam Science Park is Brandenburg’s largest research location, bringing together top international research with local start-ups and companies. The young scientists of tomorrow are being trained at the institutes of the University of Potsdam and Germany’s largest research societies.
It only takes ten minutes to get to Potsdam-Golm science park from Potsdam’s main railway station. When you get off at Golm station, you will find yourself right in the centre of Potsdam Science Park, which is like an enclave of innovation, technology and science in a natural landscape. The Science Park is growing all the time. The Golm Campus of the University of Potsdam as well as two Fraunhofer institutes and three Max Planck institutes form the scientific breeding ground for research, innovation and entrepreneurship. This attracts more companies and start-ups to Golm, which can benefit from the local research spirit.
Spin-outs from the research projects themselves can start their own businesses and permanently settle in the familiar surroundings. For many, this collaboration between research, start-ups and companies is more than just a place to work, it is a community.

True to its slogan ‘We Live Science’, Standortmanagement Golm GmbH has been making this community feel at home in Golm since 2008. Potsdam Science Park, which evolved from the former Golm Science Park, will thus continue to grow as a hub for innovation and start-ups. The park management pools the interests of all the institutions located there and boosts the profile of the park far beyond Brandenburg’s borders. Since 1993, the Potsdam-Golm site has received funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to finance investments in infrastructure, research and development. The park management itself has been receiving ERDF funding since 2018 until 2022 for the park’s public relations and networking activities. In doing so, Potsdam Science Park should not only be able to attract new start-ups and companies, but it should also become visible and accessible to interested citizens of all ages living in Brandenburg.
New commercial space and jobs for Golm
Around 1,000 new jobs are to be created in Golm by 2028. At the new GO:IN 2 (Golm Innovation Centre) office and laboratory complex, for instance, 6,300 sqm will be available as rental space for newly settled start-ups and companies along with another 4,600 sqm at the H-Lab. In a new 5,200 sqm building, the Institute of Computer Science of the University of Potsdam is now also to become part of the park community. Further areas are also being developed. So there is enough space to tinker with the technologies of the future and get inspiring projects off the ground.
