In order to increase the attractiveness for guests after the COVID-19 pandemic, the 3-star Hotel Gutenmorgen at Lake Zechlin in the district of Ostprignitz-Ruppin has expanded its services with entertainment options for the young guests and implemented some renovation measures in the sanitary and wellness area.

The Hotel Gutenmorgen in an idyllic lakeside location is already run by the second generation of the Gutenmorgen family. In the immediate vicinity of the cycling routes “Tour de Brandenburg” and “Tour of historic town centres”, it is a popular starting point for many cycling and water tourists. The hotel has 62 hotel rooms with 114 beds. A restaurant, a cocktail bar and a beer garden cater for the physical well-being of up to 200 guests. There is also a sauna and an in-house petting zoo. For 30 years, the hotel has thus successfully established itself on the market and is recording growing turnover and occupancy figures. With support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) co-financed programme “Investment Support in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Hospitality Industry” as a measure to help the economy recover due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has now been possible to carry out some renovation work.

Wellness facilities and fun for children

The renovation of washbasins, toilets and showers in thirteen hotel rooms leads to a higher comfort of use. This also helps people who need assistance, as more space is available and the entry height of the showers has also been lowered. Two electronic Shiatsu massage chairs were also purchased to improve the wellness offer. When the weather is bad, guests often spontaneously want a massage. With the massage chairs, they can be pampered continuously, at their desired times and at very short notice. For families with children, bad weather days or waiting times in the restaurant are often a challenge. Therefore, new mobile play stations were installed in three of the five restaurant rooms. There, children can occupy themselves with motor skills toys and touchscreens while adult guests seeking rest can relax.

Supporting crisis management

To help businesses to overcome the economic and social impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and build bridges to the future, ERDF-funds under REACT-EU support measures such as that of Hotel Gutenmorgen. The aim is to rebuild Europe’s economy in a green, digital and stable way by providing additional funding. Brandenburg’s funding focuses primarily on future-oriented measures and investments in the areas of tourism, culture and education and training.
